The Channon 5kms
The Channon has a long history in the alternative movement since the early 1970’s. The new settlers emphasised the environment as shown in the fight for Terania in ’79, where new presidents were established for environmental protection in Australia and overseas.
Eternity Springs Art Farm reflects the commitment of the whole area in finding active ways to reduce our ecological ‘footprint’ and offers visitors an opportunity to see organic cycles in the kitchen garden and orchards. We are in the process of planting hundreds of native species and regenerating the rainforest area around the creek to the waterfall and up the track to the spring.
An ideal venue to look and experience a variety of permaculture and earth repair systems, such as recycling, organic gardens, wetland and rainforest regeneration.
The story…….
Take twenty acres of degraded cow pasture, gift it with an artist – Amanda Furze, whose canvas is the environment in which she lives, leave them together for 14 years and what you get is a B&B with a difference: an art farm called Eternity Springs built on creative and permaculture principles.
Over the past decade Amanda has not just created 5 unique cabins and rooms to stay in for a few nights or a week or two; or a venue for workshops and courses; or a functioning small farm that feeds her visitors; or even a working example of sustainable systems: she has crafted an experience to which people are constantly attracted. “I love sharing this place with other people,” she says. “I like to think people who visit here are inspired to be creative and sustainable in their home environment.”
Visitors will have their spirits lifted by colour everywhere; the ambiance of each of the rooms and the tropical abundance of a verdant garden hiding many surprises. The climax is climbing the stairway to heaven where you can walk a labyrinth or just sit in heaven and admire the view.
Accommodation covers the spectrum from the luxury Lotus Cabin to the cosy Cubbies, giving you whatever degree of comfort you choose. But whatever part of the accommodation spectrum you can afford, everyone is welcome to hang out in the hammocks on what those of us in the know have dubbed “the best back verandah in Australia.” There’s even a ‘cool pool’ for those impossibly hot summer days
It’s only after you take in this visual feast that you begin to notice the productive kitchen garden and orchards; the worm farm; chooks and ducks; horse; the array of solar devices; a pizza oven and rocket stove; the swales, ponds and dams; and the waste water recycling system. Not to mention the big open studio to get your creative juices flowing.
Wander across the paddock and discover a cool and shady waterfall and areas that are rapidly regenerating back to rainforest; a joint venture between humans and nature!
Eternity Springs is an evolving work-in-progress and after years of hosting art workshops – in drawing, painting, sculpture including hebel block and wood carving – for the general public and groups with disabilities, as well as parties and weddings in heaven, Amanda is now hosting a Permaculture Design Course for women. This course came out of comments from several women staying here at Eternity Springs who not only wanted to do a permaculture course, but wanted to do it somewhere comfortable!
This and other courses offered are all ways to think in terms of productive cycles and bio diversity. See more under Permaculture.
